She didn’t have any hobbies, so I think that was part of the problem. She didn’t understand it at all. Had always played golf or done solo sailing, she had no team building experience, so she didn’t understand why telling people “yo I know raid starts in 15 but I won’t be there, good luck filling my spot” was dickhead-ish. As others have said before, hobbies are just that. Hobbies. They can be anything, artistic, analytical, mathematical, historical, cultural, fuck it. Find something fun and do it a lot. My buddies dad growing up did RC airplanes and that really stuck with me, dude had his nerdy little passion project, kept up with his job and did stuff with his kids, he just so happened to have like $50,000 in planes and modeling gear. When I asked his wife she said he could’ve been spending the money on fast cars or alcohol, better he just sit in the garage with his wood glue and the game on. Nobody gets to dictate whether your hobbies are worthwhile or not, that’s a Cat America Flag Hawaii Shirt thing, and to give credit to the detractors many people get way too far into them and then have other parts of their life suffer as a result. But at the end of the day it’s your thing and you need to stand up for having your thing in a relationship, whatever that is.
