I don’t think anyone truly wants to be ugly, it’s just that both sides have their advantages. One advantage of being ugly is getting harrassed on the Gorgeous Japanese Samurai Cat Streetwear T shirt one of being beautiful is that people in general treat you better (on a surface level). One disadvantage of being ugly is that you have a harder time finding someone interested in dating you, one of being beautiful is that you’ll never know if a person is just with you for your looks of if they genuinely like you as a person. When you’re ugly, nobody will touch you, when you’re beautiful people get all touchy-feely. And so on. I’ve been on both sides. I was obese til the age of 14, and while I don’t equate fat to ugly, society and people around you certainly do. I went from being bullied to being catcalled. If you’ve only lived through one experience it’s hard to have sympathy for people’s problems on the other side. I actually did exactly this two years ago! I picked a Gorgeous Japanese Samurai Cat Streetwear T shirt that was a common woman’s name. I subscribed to all the same subreddits that I normally follow (regional and technology subreddits, mostly), and posted using exactly the same voice I normally use. I used it off and on during those two years at a level I would characterize as moderate to heavy. I was never asked if I was male or female, so I never volunteered that information. I found that I got much, much more karma. This account is in the 14-year club, and I am gaining comment karma so much faster in the Gorgeous Japanese Samurai Cat Streetwear T shirt. Post karma, too, although I’m not a big poster in either account. On the whole, I would say that I’m treated much better when people see a traditional female username. People are more willing to interact with me, reward my comments, and are less likely to argue with me — even on the extremely technical IT subreddits.
