Srs: I went to Ann Taylor and bought a suit set when I was going through the interview process before graduation….8 years ago. I have not seriously needed that suit, or any formal suiting attire since then. Even during my last job search. I’ve purged 60% of my clothes since the pandemic and alot of it was ‘classics’ and office attire for an office culture that doesn’t really exist anymore in my field/city. Who else was sold the dream or expectation that you’d be a career woman with a collection of suits and dresses and heels and be busy busy busy at your big job. I used to love watching my mom pick her work outfit out for the next day, and sit on the toilet seat watching her do her makeup and hair in the morning. ETA: to finish this thought – This ‘getting ready’ and dressing for work certainly doesn’t exist for me the way it did for her when she was early and midcareer.
