THE CATS SHIRT
Depends. If you’re enlisted you get your first set just given to you in basic training but they take it out of your pay during basic training. You don’t really get paid for boot camp, they charge you for the food and uniforms, etc but it’s just accounting. Basically all your pay goes right back to them for that two months. You don’t really get your first pay until after boot camp. I could be wrong about that but I believe that’s how it works. After that you buy them yourself but you get a uniform allowance to pay for them. It’s a set amount every year so it’s up to you to take care of your stuff so you don’t have to spend additional out of pocket. But usually people did have to spend out of pocket because the environment you work in is dirty/rough and it damaged uniforms. As you advance in rank your uniforms might change in color/type and it’s up to you to buy a whole new set, but you still do get the allowance every year. It sucks when people are happy to make a new rank and then immediately get saddled with a big expense. If you’re an officer it’s a bit different. Officers have to pay for their own uniforms with no allowance given but that’s a very old tradition going back to when officers were aristocrats/gentry/wealthy and the enlisted were the “peasants”. There are various banks that offer loans to help pay for your initial set of uniforms (it can be thousands of dollars) and you can buy them from various companies. There’s the cheap brand they sell on base, but you can also chose to have them made by Brooks Brothers, for example, and that will cost much more. And of course it’s a class thing, there are optional uniform items that are very expensive that people can choose to buy that are above and beyond the basic required uniforms that people will buy to show off. Shit like that was super common among officers. Interestingly, officers also have to pay for their own food, although it is does get offset. I was an officer and I recall my food bill on my ship being about $400/month but I received a food allowance in my paycheck that was like $175 or something. Idk it’s been awhile. Sometimes officers will elect to just physically bring all their own food to try to save money, and only get charged for the individual meals they choose to eat in the communal dining area (mess/wardroom/whatever each branch calls it), but that’s not always allowed at every command. Obviously if you’re assigned to a US base and you live off base you buy your own good like anyone else, the above is just for when you’re deployed. In case you couldn’t tell, I was an officer, so most of my experience was with that. As someone who did not come from a privileged socioeconomic background, it was actually very hard for me to meet these costs while also trying to pay back student loans and my commissioning loan (for uniforms and other costs associated with becoming an officer). At one point as a new officer I owed my ship so much money that my commanding officer took away my credit cards to “help me learn financial responsibility” but then I couldn’t eat and I had to sell my hair. I made like $1200 selling my hair (it was very long and in good condition) to some weird perv I met online so I could pay off my food bill and then I got in trouble for having a shaved head because it didn’t meet the female hair standards in place at the time that my hair be “feminine and attractive”. That was 2007 I left in 2012 and things might be somewhat different now but I don’t believe the model for uniforms and food has changed
THE CATS SHIRT
Nothing in this clip is funny, at ALL. Patton is a THE CATS SHIRT that only pokes fun at sensibilities and foibles in one direction that is pro mainstream [the ‘new’ normal] and not counter culture (because the new counter culture anti pc strands are adopted by the right rather than the left – which is opposite to what it had been historically ) . He’s very safe, predictable and packageable. I would like to see more bill burr, dave Chappelle, ari shaffir, doug Stanhope, Patrice God bless him if he were still alive O’Neal, gavin mcinnes, joey diaz and some comics that Joe rogan would recommend. But people are scared nowadays. That’s why so many comics have stopped touring colleges like Chris rock or Seinfeld because of the safespace culture. Thats why you’re never going to get a Eddie Murphy presents :Raw type of special again. There are red lines now and if you cross them you gotta go on an apology tour like Tracy until you get in a car wreck and rehabilitated to be acceptable by the mainstream public again. Listen to the good comics’ comics discussing it, they hate how this shit is going now. Even Louis ck, who was a huge free speech guy, listened to horace and Pete or his comedy lately? It’s all one way now
